Create a packing plan: Include steps for playing “trash, keep, donate” in each room, cleaning thoroughly, running errands and—oh—the packing itself.

Cancel (and start) services: Call your current utilities and other companies to cancel, move or set up new services.

Change your address: Visit USPS.com to update your mailing address, and be sure to update your address for insurance policies, banking and other accounts (like AAA).

Consult your insurance agent: Contact your agent to discuss changes to your policies as your coverage and premiums may change depending on your new location.

Confirm plans with your movers: Touch base with your moving team to confirm specifics like the date and time of pickup.

Prepare the essentials: Moving day will likely allow little or no time (or tools) to prepare “fuel” for the day, so prep the meals you and your family will need—and have some snacks on hand, too.

Finish packing: It’s crunch time. Revisit your packing plan to ensure you’re still on track to meet your moving date.

Moving day

Drop off your little ones: Take your pets and/or kids to day care, or to spend the day with family or a friend. That way, you can focus on the task at hand.

Leave no trace: With no furniture and boxes around, cleaning may be the easiest it’s ever been.

Tie up loose ends: Ask yourself if there’s anything left to do—from leaving keys and garage openers behind to turning on a few lights so the house looks lived-in.

New Home, New Needs

Your current home’s insurance protection won’t always apply to your new home. Our insurance agents can review your coverage and suggest adjustments for added peace of mind.
